Research Interests

Tony G. Reames conducts research in the emerging field of energy justice, which investigates fair and equitable access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy technology. His research employs energy analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), and policy analysis tools to study disparities in urban residential energy dynamics focusing on the production and persistence of spatial, racial, and socioeconomic inequality. Took a leave of absence in June 2021 to serve as Deputy Director for Energy Justice at the U.S. Department of Energy. He lead the Office of Energy Justice Policy and Analysis in the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity. Reames will become the Tishman Professor of Environmental Justice at SEAS and serve as the new Director of the SEAS Detroit Sustainability Clinic, effective January 2024. In terms of teaching, advising, and student mentoring, Reames will be on sabbatical through September 2024 and will resume these activities in Fall 2024.
